Original U.S. WWI M1918 Mounted Rifle .30-06 Cartridge Belt by LONG with Suspenders & WWII Medical Pouch

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service used khaki tan WWI US Army Cavalry M1918 Mounted Cartridge Belt, manufactured by LONG and dated 1918 on the left pouch and center attachment belt. This belt has 9 pockets, each of which could could hold two 5 round stripper clips of .30-06 ammo for the M-1903 Springfield Rifle, the M-1917 Enfield, or the British Short Magazine Lee Enfield No. 1 Mark III. These later pattern WWI belts do not have the earlier separators used in the M1907 and M1910 pattern belts. There is space on the left side of the belt next to the four pockets for the M1910 Pistol Magazine Pouch, and this is the later pattern with the snap for a more secure attachment.

Attached to the belt is a very nice set of suspender shoulder straps with brass snap hooks, as well as a WWII small medical pouch dated 1941. It is very possible that this belt was in storage and reissued for WWII, as the lack of a separator in the pouches meant that M1 Garand En-Bloc clips would fit without issue.

The whole rig is in very good service used condition, with a lovely patina and broken in look. The belt currently is about 37 inches long, and could probably be let out to around 45 inches. One could easily picture this on an early WWII GI setting out for the North Africa campaign. A very interesting setup that probably saw service during TWO world wars, ready to display!
