Original U.S. WWI Third Red Cross Roll Call Donation Poster With Artwork By Haskell Coffin - 30” x 20”

Item Description

Original Item:  Only One Available. The American Red Cross made a major contribution to aid the wounded during World War I. Within weeks of the outbreak of the war it dispatched The Mercy Ship, which brought surgeons, nurses, and medical supplies to Europe. When the U.S. entered the war in April of 1917, the organization began a period of remarkable growth, and by war’s end it had become a major humanitarian organization with a record of broad and distinguished service.

The poster features a Red Cross nurse with outstretched hands. Text reads “Third Red Cross Roll Call”. The artwork was done by William Haskell Coffin. William Haskell Coffin (October 21, 1878 – May 12, 1941) was a painter and commercial artist who flourished in the early decades of the twentieth century. His work appeared on the cover of leading magazines in the United States and on posters that the US government commissioned. Coffin specialized in images of women, which were reproduced on the covers of popular magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, The American Magazine, Redbook, McCall's, Leslie's Illustrated, and the Pictorial Review. He was one of the most highly paid illustrators of his era.

The poster is offered in GOOD condition for the age but there is however slight fading and tearing to the edges.

Comes ready for display.
