Original Item: Only One Available. The unit was first organized in August 1917 and activated the following September during World War I as the 80th Division. During World War II, the Division was redesignated on 1 August 1942, as the 80th Infantry Division. Nicknamed the "Blue Ridge Division", it was initially composed of draftees from the mid-atlantic states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The Division was redesignated the 80th Airborne Division from December 1946 to May 1952. In May 1952 and March 1959, the unit was redesignated as a reserve infantry division and then a reserve training division. In 1994, the unit was granted the designation, 80th Division (Institutional Training). On 1 October 2008, the unit underwent a major transformation and is now the 80th Training Command.
This set includes a beautiful 80th Infantry Division patched tunic with US/HQ collar discs featured on the cuff style collar. The tunic is completed with all buttons and snaps and is in great condition with very minor moth nips. The 80th division “Blue Ridge” shoulder patch was hand sewn onto the left shoulder and is in beautiful condition with most of the thread retained. The chevron on the left sleeve is also retained very nicely. The lower left sleeve, just above the service stripes, is a beautiful enameled Distinctive Unit Insignia. The lining of the jacket is without extensive damage but it does show very minor staining.
The trousers are a beautiful pair in similar condition to the tunic. They are without damage and still retain the drawstring down on the calf location of the jodphurs. Also included in this set is a lovely wool leg wraps, a period photograph and another 80th Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia.
There are no markings that can be found on any item, but that doesn’t make this uniform any less attractive! A truly stunning set welcomed into any WW1 AEF displays!
