Item Description
Original item: Only One Available. Measuring 19 ⅝ inches in length, this is a very nice WWI Era Model 1918 “Battery Commanders” periscope. In X 7.5 power, these were used to help view and plot artillery attacks from behind cover, to avoid exposing the commander to danger.
The bottom of the periscope still has the manufacturer’s markings:
TRENCH PERISCOPE NO. 10
X7.5
MODEL 1918
M.F.G'D BY
WOLLENSAK OPT. CO.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. U.S.A.
No.
8356
R. G. C.
Still providing a good image, lens needing a good internal clean however but still usable. The bakelite eye cup is still present, and in great shape, and the focus diopter works correctly.
The leather carry case is still quite solid with the only real issue being that the closure strap is torn at the buttonhole. The case is dated 1918 and still retains the original shoulder strap.
Condition overall is worn, but the original paint can still be seen, even with the extensive chips through to the brass body.
