In 1925, Brown & Williamson purchased J.G. Flynt Tobacco Co. and its trademarks, including the popular Sir Walter Raleigh smoking tobacco. The following year, the company bought R.P. Richardson Company, which had just started to market manufactured cigarettes. The Raleigh brand of cigarettes came from this brand of smoking tobacco. B&W’s first national brand, Raleigh, was launched as a premium cigarette in 1928. Famed NY Yankee baseball legend Babe Ruth also appeared in advertising for Raleigh

Brown & Williamson was an American tobacco company and subsidiary of the giant British American Tobacco, that produced several popular cigarette brands. It became infamous as the focus of investigations for chemically enhancing the addictiveness of cigarettes. Its former vice-president of research and development, Jeffrey Wigand, was the whistleblower in an investigation conducted by CBS news program 60 Minutes, an event that was dramatized in the film The Insider. Wigand claimed that B&W had introduced chemicals such as ammonia into cigarettes to increase nicotine delivery and increase addictiveness.

The poster features: THE PRIDE OF THE REGIMENT and shows a beautiful girl in shorts and a small top wearing a leather Sam Browne Belt with shoulder strap and a dough boy helmet with artillery badge to front.

This lovely lady is draped across an early WW2 Artillery piece and of course she is smoking a Raleigh cigarette. Across the bottom is an inspirational Red, White and Blue banner urging BUY THE PACK with the COUPON on the Back.

We obtained this from a display in an American Legion post where it was hanging for the past seventy years. Offered in good condition.
