Item Description
Original items: One-of-a-kind set. This is a Ike jacket and pants with a 3rd armor division path to the right shoulder and a 106th Infantry division on the left shoulder indicating that this solider probably spent most of his overseas service with the 3rd armored but came home with the 106th.
The Ike jacket is a size 40 and features enamel screw back 32nd Armored Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) pins. Overall condition is very good.
The 32nd was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division. The unit moved to Normandy in mid June 1944. On 29 June 1944, the regiment entered combat as part of the 3rd Armored Division's Combat Command A at Villiers-Fossard. The regiment fought on until 24 April 1945. During their time in action the unit assisted in the liberation of France and Belgium and breaking through the Siegfried Line. It experienced heavy combat in the Hurtgen Forest and The Battle of the Bulge. The regiment earned two Distinguished Unit Citations and twice received the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque for their service.
“Victory Or Death,” the motto of the 32nd Armored Regiment, served as an inspirational order to this first of the 3rd Armored Division’s two great battering rams. Commanded by Colonel Leander L. Doan, the 32nd contributed much to the powerhouse drive of the “Spearhead” Division through Europe.
