Original U.S. WWII Army Air Force D-2 Breathing Oxygen Bottle With Carry Bag

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a rare U.S. WWII Army Air Corp Type D-2 Breathing Oxygen canister with a khaki carrying case. The Type D-2 oxygen tanks were used in B-17 Bombers. This type of tank is known as a "walk-around" tank, measuring approximately 28 inches in length. If the Bombardier needed to get back to the Tail Gunner. He would disconnect his oxygen at his station and connect the D-2 tank to walk to the rear of the bomber. The D-2 was essentially used by any crew member to move about the plane. The D-2 tank is yellow colored. It is well marked. It has black stencil lettering on the side of the tank. It reads:

BREATHING OXYGEN
NON-SHATTERABLE
TYPE D-2 SPEC. 94-40355
INTERNAL VOLUME 500 CUBIC INCHES
AVAILABLE OXYGEN FROM 400 TO 50 LBS
SQ. INCH PRESSURE IS 6.9 CUBIC FEET.

The head of the cylinder has an A-13 regulator with a pounds per square inch gauge. Unfortunately only the inner threading on the gauge is keeping it attached to the bottle, the larger main threading is broken. This D-2 oxygen breathing tank comes with a khaki colored case that the cylinder slips into. It has tie straps and an adjustable shoulder strap. The case is well marked and reads:

CYLINDER & REGULATOR
ASSEMBLY - DWG. 44C7367
