Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is a lovely Army Nurse Corps uniform grouping named to a Lieutenant Dorothy Galblum, Hospital Dietician of US Army General Hospital 157, 804th Hospital Center. This hospital entered the European Theater of Operations in August 1944, in England.
The grouping is named under the collar of one of the shirts to Dorothy Galblum. Many other pieces of the grouping have her Laundry number, G-5649, stamped on. We were lucky enough to find a photograph of Galblum in a 1943 yearbook.
The grouping includes:
- Army Nurse Corps Lieutenant’s uniform jacket with Army Air Forces patch on the left sleeve, with US & Hospital Dietician collar insignia.
- The matching skirt for the jacket.
- Nurse’s gown with G-5649 stamped inside. Dark red piping on shoulder boards and cuffs. Some staining but good shape overall.
- Two Nurse’s shirts, one with Galblum’s name tag under the collar, both with her laundry number G-5649 stamped inside.
- Two ANC Overseas caps with 1st Lieutenant Insignia, one named inside to a Lieutenant Francis-Svoyer, who we have been unable to find anything on. Both caps have black and gold piping for officers.
- Three pinstripe uniform pieces, possibly shawls or headwraps, all stamped with Galblum’s laundry number, G-5649.
Dorothy Galblum was born on February 7th, 1918 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. She moved to Pennsylvania and enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps on July 1st, 1942. She served overseas in Europe from February 12th, 1944 until November 6th, 1945, being discharged on February 15th, 1946. Her service number was 725649, lining up with her Laundry number stamps. She married Morey X. Powell in 1948, her name becoming Dorothy G. Powell. She passed away on April 24th, 2015, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
This is a great grouping to a Hospital Dietician, ready for further research and display!
