Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Bowie-style knife from the Philippines, brought back by a USGI after WWII. It is quite impressive, having an very large 11 5/8 inch clip-point "Bowie" style blade. The size puts it close to "machete" territory, and it may very well have been intended to clear brush.
Overall length of the knife is 17 inches, and has a very nice curved handle, held in place with brass fittings. It also has a very nice simple brass "S" shaped cross guard. The end of the handle has been fashioned into what looks to be a soldier wearing a visor cap. We have definitely not seen this type of carving before, and it even has inlaid "eyes". The back of the handle is marked 1944 U.S.N., indicating that a Sailor acquired this at the beginning of the U.S. invasion of the Philippines.
The knife is in very good condition, with a lovely aged steel finish and patina. Edge has no major chips, and is actually still relatively sharp.
