Original Items. Only One Group Available. This is a great lot belonging to Army Air Corpsman Earl J. Mathewson Jr. The group includes his Crush cap, dog tags, insignia, and a great deal of ephemera including ten of his notebooks which all have some degree of notes or writing in them. He spent a great deal of time training in the Army Air Corps, becoming a lieutenant.
The group includes:
-Mathewson’s Army Crush cap with a wrap-around chinstrap and great Eagle insignia. The cap is by Bancroft and doesn’t have any name written.
-Mathewson’s dog tags reading MATHEWSON, JR. E.J. 0876736 T44 B. Both are on small plastic wires.
-Mathewson’s Air Transport Command patch, two pieces.
-Mathewson’s metal insignia including six lieutenant bars, two U.S. collar insignia, three Air Corps collar insignia, and two Air Transport Command DUI pins.
-Mathewson’s sewing kit complete with all original parts and comb.
-Ten notebooks reading ROYAL MEMORANDUM BOOK. Some books have labels for specific courses like Chemical Warfare, Map Reading & Post & Sq. Duties, Aircraft Recognition, Squadron Supply, Military Law, with several others that are just basic notes. A plethora of information about the Army and his service!
-Booklet on National Service Life Insurance for post-war vets.
-Book of Flight Reports with the first page filled out.
-Two Maintenance Inspection Records with one page filled out
-Hardcover copy of “The Officer’s Guide” with the same crush cap on the cover. Named on interior cover to Mathewson.
-New Infantry Drill Regulations book named to Mathewson with train ticket dated 1945 inside.
-Small booklet for parachute log record. One page filled out.
-Two grade & attendance report slips filled out to Mathewson.
This is a phenomenal grouping to Earl J. Mathewson Jr., who enlisted in the Army on January 19th, 1944 in Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. He was born in Rhode Island in 1920. This group is a fantastic research opportunity! Comes ready for further research and display!
