Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of an unissued WWII US Navy Vice Admiral (Three Star) flag. The flag is made with a navy blue wool body, with three cotton / light canvas stars sewn onto the field, and has a heavy duty canvas header with sturdy brass grommets. It is marked V/ ADMIRAL SIZE 7 on the header, and also is marked by maker PARAMOUNT FLAG CO. of San Francisco. It measures a very displayable 22” x 34”, including the canvas header. It is in fantastic condition with minimal wear and staining present.
As flag officers, the flags flown for vice admirals of the unrestricted line of the U.S. Navy have three white, single-point-up stars on blue fields, with one star on the upper half and two on the bottom half. The flags of restricted line officers and staff corps officers have blue stars on a white field. The small size of this flag indicates it was most likely used on a launch or other transport vessel, as it is far to small to be identified at any long distance.
A wonderful flag that comes more than ready for further research and display.
