Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original 1953 single sheet theatrical release poster for the film FLIGHT NURSE, also sometimes called "Angels Take Over" and Angels over Korea." This 1953 American drama war film was directed by Allan Dwan and stars Joan Leslie and Forrest Tucker. The film is largely based on the life of Lillian Kinkella Keil, who made 250 evacuation flights (23 of them transatlantic) during World War II and 175 evacuation flights during the Korean War, becoming one of the most decorated women in American military history.
Flight Nurse begins with the dedication:
This picture is respectfully dedicated to that brave legion of military nurses who are serving with the armed forces of free nations all over the world. These angels of mercy – shoulder to shoulder, share the danger and hardships of free fighting men everywhere, with devotion above and beyond the call of duty.
The movie takes place during the Korean War, where a United States Air Force nurse with the Medical Air Evacuation Unit flies on C-47 transport aircraft based in Japan where she ferries servicemen wounded in combat.
The poster is offered in very good condition, though it definitely has degraded due to age, and the lower right corner is missing. It looks to have previously been framed, but was received by us just on a piece of cardboard, which is it partly wrapped around. It measures approximately 27" × 41".
