Item Description
Original Item: Only one available. The attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 ignited not only anger towards the enemy, it also sparked a wildfire of patriotism in every American in all corners of the country. As the war effort was kicked into overdrive, Americans did everything they could to remind each other why they were fighting and what could be lost.
This is a prime example of one of these pieces, a lovely "Victory" wooden toy machine gun, complete with its original mount tripod. There were various different makers and styles for these toys, which were made almost completely out of wood, which was plentiful and a "non-essential material" during the war, so it could be used freely without rationing. The machine gun is painted with a lovely period OD green color, and still has most of the original maker decal present on the rear right, which features a large V in the background and reads:-

The wooden machine gun itself is about 23 1/2 inches long, and the mount tripod has legs measuring just under 11 inches. There is also a crank on the right side, which turns a star shaped piece of wood against a wooden "spring", very similar to a gas alarm rattle, creating a wonderful noise as the gun is "fired".
Overall condition is very good, and it displays wonderfully, with the only issue being that some of the wooden legs don't stay securely in the central hub of the tripod anymore. A lovely U.S. WWII Homefront toy, ready to add to your collection!
