Item Description
Original Items: Only One Lot Available. This lot is a perfect display candidate for honoring the often-overlooked heroes of WWII - the War Dogs. Specifically, it is an array of items attributed to a brave canine named "Buster" who was assigned to Sentry Duty during the war and was given the tattoo number H505.
Sentry dogs like Buster were essential in maintaining the safety of military camps and other priority areas during the war. These dogs were trained to use their heightened senses of hearing and smell to detect any potential threats, and would bark or growl to alert guards of a stranger's presence. They were especially valuable at night, when visibility was limited and human guards were more likely to miss any potential intruders.
Buster and other sentry dogs were highly trained and skilled animals who played a vital role in the war effort. They were often deployed to dangerous locations and put themselves in harm's way to ensure the safety of their human counterparts. Their dedication and bravery will never be forgotten.
The lot consists of the following items:
- TM 10-396, Technical Manual WAR DOGS: Offered in good condition but does have tearing present as well as what appears to be staining from water droplets.
- 9” x 11 ⅝” Framed Discharge Certificate: The cert is for the Sentry Dog named “Buster”. Buster “enlisted” on August 31, 1943 and received his “discharge” on February 14, 1945.
- “Dogs At War” Hardcover Book (1944): Book is in wonderful condition despite age toning and fragile like paper.
- 10” x 8” Photo COPY of ‘Willie’, General Patton’s Bull Terrier: This is a copy of the famous photo of Willie laying next to General Patton’s personal effects following his death.
- (2) 6 ½” x 4 ½” Original Photos of “US Plane Drops Dogs In”: The photos have the original caption pasted on the reverse of both:

U.S. PLANE DROPS DOGS IN
PRACTICE RESCUE FLIGHT
- Reproduction K-9 Corps patch
Two 100-pound Siberian Huskies are dropped with a parachute from a search and rescue plane of the Alaskan Wing of the U.S. Army Air Forces during a practice rescue flight near a Canadian Army post. Dogs of this breed are trained to search for flyers lost in wildernesses. A flight surgeon, carrying food and medical supplies, parachutes to earth with the animals to guide them in their search and to administer aid to the lost airmen.
A fantastic grouping of items that comes with a great reproduction patch and is more than ready for further research and display.
