Original U.S. WWII M3A1 Diaphragm Gas Mask with MIXA2 Filter dated 1944 and MIVA1 Gas Mask Bag

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of one of the last types of gas mask that the United States fielded in WWII. The M1 Design had first come about in 1921 as an improvement of the M1919 gas mask, developed at the end of WWI. It then went through several improvements, with the M1A2 being introduced in 1934, and remaining the standard U.S. Gas mask into the early years of WWII. However the delicate "bladder" under the mask was prone to breakage, so it was replaced with the M2 and later M3 diaphragm based gas masks. These themselves went through several revisions, and this is the M3A1, the last design used as a standard issue. This example has the correct U.S. / U marking on the forehead, indicating the "Universal" size of the M3A1.

The mask is in good condition, though as with any WWII Rubber product, it has degraded in areas, as the rubber has dried out and deteriorated. The securing harness elastic is broken, and some of the internal components are also cracked. The hose has broken off at the bottom of the mask, and has other cracks in it is well, though it is still partly supple. The other end is still connected to the M1XA2 filter, which has the correct markings, and is in good condition, dated 2 - 44 on the side.

The mask and filter come with the correct WWII US Army MI1VA1 Army Service Gas Mask Canvas Carry Bag, which was also used for the M1A2, M2, M2A1 & M2A2 Gas Masks. This is the last model bag used for this gas mask. The case is in great shape, and has all of the correct markings and straps intact.

A nice set, ready to display!
