Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of a WWII Era M43 field jacket, issued and worn during the Korean War era. The best feature of the jacket is the Second Armored Corps “Tiger in Tank” artwork on the back of the jacket. There are no arsenal/manufacture tags present on the jacket, so confirmation of a date cannot be found. The artwork on the reverse does appear to be period done due to the aging and fading that is present.
A response to the need for more functional uniforms to protect their troops, the Army began designs for the M-43. Originally tested by troops in Sicily and Italy, the US Army M-43 Field Jacket was only issued to troops in 1944, due to design changes and contractor shortages. The M1943 Field Jacket was the main component of the US Army’s improved combat uniform issued in the latter part of the Second World War. This jacket, with only minor design changes, was issued to American troops for the next 50 years, and is still manufactured today for the civilian market.
The overall condition of the jacket is quite nice with a solid level of wear present. There is no significant damage present though there are a few wear holes and tears present, mostly isolated to the cuffs. The artwork on the back is still easily discernible though slightly faded. It is possible that the artwork was post Korean War applied, which we have no way of determining.
A lovely display item that comes more than ready for further research and display.
