Original U.S. WWII Named 82nd Airborne Uniform Grouping Featuring Custom Camouflage Parachute Silk Lined Overseas Cap - With Documents

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Group Available. This is a fantastic pair of WWII 82nd Airborne Division uniform items, named to a Corporal Harry W. Fuchs (ASN: 33375985). Corporal Fuchs first served in the military with the Maryland State Guard, enlisting on the very same day as the attack at Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, serving until September 17, 1942.

He enlisted in the regular army on October 1, 1942 and served honorably until January 4, 1946. While serving with the 82nd Airborne Division his assignments consisted of Field Artillery Basic Training, Clerk General, Duty NCO and Personnel Clerk.

During the course of the war he performed a variety of clerical and typing duties in the personnel section of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, such as prepared and typed military correspondence, forms, records and orders. He was also able to make one combat jump in the Rhineland Campaign.

The Items In This Grouping:
- Class A Uniform Jacket: This excellent condition WW2 Class A Uniform jacket was worn by a Corporal Fuchs and his laundry number F-5985 can be found stamped in the rear liner.. 82nd Airborne Shoulder Sleeve Insignia is present on the left shoulder, with Corporal chevrons on both sleeves. Both insignias are stitched on the coat with wonderful period hand-applied stitching. There are no collar devices or awards present, only a Ruptured Duck patch on the right breast.

- M41 Field Jacket: Olive Drab Cotton Field Jacket (also known as OD Cotton Field Jacket, Parsons Jacket, M-1938 or M-1941) was a field jacket used by US Army soldiers, most famously during the beginning of World War II. In 1941 it started to be phased in as a replacement for the wool four pocket service coat, but around 1943 it was replaced in turn by an improved M-1943 model. Due to wide adoption, M-1941 is usually recognized as a symbol of the World War II American G.I.. The jacket was made in a lighter shade of olive drab called OD number 3. The jacket is unmarked but does retain a 34R size tag. The left shoulder features an Army Ground Forces Replacement Depot patch with a Corporal Chevron beneath it. The right shoulder has a lovely 82nd ABD patch and rocker above the 2nd Corporal Chevron.

- Parachute Silk Lined Overseas Cap: This is an absolutely beautiful modification to a wool overseas cap. The interior lining was replaced with a piece of camouflaged parachute silk, more than likely taken from his parachute when he jumped into the Rhineland. The light blue piping is faded and stained, given it the look of being light brown. The glider patch on the left side is in excellent condition with minor staining to the white glider and parachute.

- x2 Ardennes-Alsace Campaign Battle Streamers: Campaign streamers are decorations attached to military flags to recognize particular achievements or events of a military unit or service. Attached to the headpiece of the assigned flag, the streamer often is an inscribed ribbon with the name and date denoting participation in a particular battle, military campaign, or theater of war; the ribbon's colors are chosen accordingly and frequently match an associated campaign medal or ribbon bar. They often are physical manifestations of battle honors, though this does not mean all streamers are battle honors (e.g. gala or parade streamers not connected to a battle). They should not be confused with a tassel, which is usually purely decorative in nature.

- Military Documents COPIES: These are not original documents, but smaller copies of the originals. The documents include Honorable Discharge, Enlisted Record and Report of Separation and Separation Qualification Record.

These are all wonderful items attributed to a member of the legendary 82nd Airborne Division. The grouping comes more than ready for further research and display!
