Item Description
Original Item: Only One Pair Available. This is an excellent condition, nearly unissued matched pair of 1943 dated Army Ski-Mountain Boots in size 7 1/2 D, as marked on the inside and top exterior. The come complete with a matched set of OD Green Canvas Gaiters, used to increase protection and insulation of the boots.
Officially known as "Boot, Ski-Mountain with Rubber Cleated Sole" by the Quartermaster Depot, these were the last of approximately 6 different versions of these boots issued during WWII. Over the course of two years the U.S. Army ski and mountain boot evolved from a cloned civilian ski boot unsuitable for military use to a multipurpose boot that could be used for skiing, climbing, and hiking. Some of the changes were very minor, so there were more correctly 4 versions, the last of which had two variations. The only difference between this type and it's predecessor is the presence of the size marking on the exterior.
Both boots are in excellent unissued condition, with just storage wear and verdigris from decades of storage. Both have rubber soles by GOOD YEAR and have identical markings on the inside:
7 1/2 D 38706
A. SANDLER CO.
BOSTON AUG 18 W19-074
DEPOT 1943 QM-47
Both boots are also marked 7 1/2 D KS on the exterior, the size and maker abbreviation. The boots are in really great shape, and still retain all the original parts, with no signs of use or major damage from moth or storage.
The included gaiters are in similar condition, each marked:
MEDIUM 72 G 1062
U. S.
GENERAL SHOE CORP.
They are really in great shape, with the only condition issues being storage wear and oxidation. One of the gaiters is missing the lacing unfortunately, easily replaced.
A great chance to pick up a great example of these boots. Ready to display, or even wear!
