Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. These knives were made in low numbers and are not seen very often today. Most knives are stamped LANGBEIN / NEW YORK on both sides like this one, but few were marked with a less common marking being C. LANGBEIN / NEW YORK stamped on both sides. Some knives were personalized with the name of the soldier by the maker with some also having a serial number and/or branch of service as well.
Langbein was a professional tool maker who specialized in surgical instruments before WWII. When the war started he began making fighting knives to supply US troops on a very limited basis. One of the most unusual things about the Langbein knife is that the blade and grip are made of a single piece of tool steel. The knife has an overall length of 12” with a 7 1/8” blade. The blade is highly polished and the entire knife may possibly be plated.
The knife is paired with an equally attractive sheath which is original to the knife. All five steel rivets are still present as well as the stitching, both still very well attached to the leather.
A great, rare example of a genuine fighting knife from WWII, comes more than ready for further research and display.
