  • Original Item: Only One Available. There are stories of Airborne Troops, especially the 101st Airborne, how when their chutes would deploy, the force of the kick back would be enough to cause leg bags and other pouches to tear away and fall to the ground, separate from the LZ. In order to prevent the loss of much needed and important ammunition and other gear while deep behind enemy lines, troopers would sew on rigger pouches and buckles, most would even replace the carry strap with a thicker, heavy duty strap.

This M1 “GP” bag is a prime example of these modified bags. Almost all original straps were removed with their buckles, and replacements were added. Instead of the feed through straps and buckles to close the bag, the iconic “Lift The Dot” snaps were added, giving the user a better sense of security and making it easier to access the contents of the bag. The shoulder strap, or “sling”, appears to be made of parachute rigging. The soldier wanted to ensure that this bag was making it down on the ground with him during every jump. Just goes to show you the level of ingenuity that was employed by soldiers in war time.

The bag appears to be without damage and has minor staining. The inside flap is still nicely marked with AMER FABRICS CO. / 1943 for “American Fabrics”.

This is a beautiful example and comes ready to be displayed!
