This exceptional fighting knife serves as an exquisite representation of the KUTMASTER's unparalleled craftsmanship during the Late War period and into the Korean War era. The knife was manufactured in Utica, New York, and gained immense popularity among servicemen as a private purchase item during the later stages of WWII. The knife's design exhibits a unique blend of strength and finesse with its razor-sharp blade, sturdy handle, and impeccable balance, making it a formidable weapon in close combat. The immaculate finish and attention to detail make it a prized possession for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
These knives boast a distinctive design that blends the best features of the M-3 Trench Knife and the US Marine Corps/ U.S. Navy MKII style Fighting Knife. The handle is strikingly similar to that of a Kabar, but upon closer inspection, one can observe subtle details borrowed from the 225Q "Commando" Fighting Knife, including a smooth handle and a substantial pommel with a lanyard loop. The knives' unique combination of features makes them a noteworthy addition to any collection.
This particular model is a rarer version, distinguished by the 6 ¾” M3 style blade. During the post-WWII period, many blades were reconditioned and sold on the civilian market, but they had a noticeable groove milled into the blade to remove Government markings such as the standard “US M3” and date. Fortunately, this knife is not such an example. Despite its age, the overall condition of the knife is very good, showing signs of honest usage over time. The knife retains much of its original nickeled finish, and it comes with its original leather scabbard, still retaining its original brown russet finish. The blade has a lovely false edge towards the top, and it is cleanly marked with “KUTMASTER / MADE IN USA”.
This is an excellent example of a seldom found WWII US Fighting Knife which would make a perfect addition to a US Military Edged Weapons collection.
