Original U.S. WWII U.S. Army Phonograph Player by Boetsch Brothers with 1947 U.S. Special Services Cowboy Medley Record

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. A World War II record player used by the Army with a record manufactured by the Special Services Division, as indicated by the label on the record, which was responsible for, among other things, entertainment and recreational activities for the troops in the United States and the theaters of combat operations. This example does not appear to have all pieces, and is being sold for display or restoration.

The phonograph player is in fair service-used condition, contained within an OD green case with an intact leather carrying handle, although we would warn against using it. The felt on the platter is still in good condition as well. There is a paper label on the inside of the lid that details the winding, use, cleaning, and oiling of the phonograph, and indicates that the phonograph was manufactured by Boestch Brothers in New York.

The unit is spring powered, which is wound using the crank present in the case. We are unsure if it works properly but the turntable does move a bit when the handle is cranked. The unit has multiple extra needles in a compartment on the turn table. Approximately 15½ by 17 by 8 inches in size. We have not tested it fully to see if it will still play music as it is missing the needle-head completely, and will need a replacement if it is to ever play music.
