Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic piece of World War Two Naval history! Bells manufactured during the height of the second World War were cast in iron due to a limitation of bronze and brass for actual combat essentials.
This is a classic U.S.N. United States Navy quarterdeck bell. The bell is cast iron and was made by the HARVARD - LOCK - COMPANY as embossed on the top of the bell. It has the correct U.S.N embossed on the bells lower rim, and definitely looks to have seen long service. The original bronze paint finish is completely gone, and there has been significant oxidation inside the bell, most likely from exposure to ocean air. The bell measures a base diameter of 9 1/2 inches and a height of 9 inches including repaired mounting stem. This is then attached to a rusted piece of steel about 11 inches long. The interior of the bell retains the original clapper, which has a replacement leather lanyard. All together it weighs about 16.5lbs.
This impressive Navy bell is well preserved and would make a nice addition to a military maritime collection. It has a fantastic "salty" look that is impossible to duplicate. Plus when you ring it, its LOUD!
