Original Item: Only One Available. This is a rare example of an original WWII U.S. Navy Issue Knit Wool Watch Cap, as issued to sailor’s and Coast Guardsmen during WWII. These are now a popular piece with collectors and vintage clothing enthusiasts alike, as they are one of the most iconic pieces of U.S. Military Headgear. They are now scarce for obvious reasons; they were so popular they continued being worn for years by those who were issued them left the service. They were simply used, worn out, and discarded.
These caps were almost unchanged from the WWI era up through WWII. They were made with a loom which gave these caps some unique patterns in the method in which they were knit; such as the merrowed edge at the very bottom of the cap, and the patterning at the crown. Usually these caps were fitted with a label where the owner could write their name. Sadly ours never had one, or has simply separated from the cap.
These caps were made in one size, with them being able to fit from a size 6 ½ all the way up to an 8 ¼.
