Original Item: Only One Available. The combination of the Coat, Parachute Jumper and the Trousers, Parachute Jumper (known as the M42 jump uniform to collectors) made up the uniform used by American paratroopers during the earlier and middle part of World War II.
This jacket and trouser combination is UNISSUED in MINT condition meaning it was never worn and even still has the original WW2 paper issue tags and labels! The set is comprised of a size 40L jacket and size 34" x 33 1/2" trousers. Every inch of this uniform is vintage and never used including all original snaps and fully functional original zippers. The trousers have a small rust colored stain on the rear right seat.
This uniform came from Colonel William Park Hickman of Mathews, Virginia. Colonel Hickman retired after 30 years in the Army Reserves. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Airborne, first with the 501st Battalion in Panama for training then later in the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
The M42 color is Olive Drab #3. The coat consists of four front patch pockets with two button snaps on each, along with a unique dual-zippered knife pocket located on the upper lapel which was designed to contain a switchblade pocketknife. The trousers have four internal pockets and two large patch pockets located one on each thigh. The thigh pockets are also closed by two button snaps each. Due to the somewhat fragile nature of the uniform, however, the M42 was often reinforced with thicker, tougher canvas on the elbows, crotch and knees. The M42 was worn by Paratroops assigned to Airborne units. Later in the war the M42 was eventually phased out in favor of the new M-1943 Uniform which was a darker green, OD #7. Despite this, various individuals chose to keep their M42s in order to show their veteran status.
There is no debate that this is the finest condition M42 Jump Uniform on the market today and likely one of the very few in the world that is in unissued mint condition!
