Item Description
Original Item: One-Of-A-Kind. This is a fantastic WWII US Marine Corps "KA-BAR" Fighting Knife, personally modified by a Marine. The Knife has had a modified heavy brass guard and pommel installed. In addition, the Marine engraved the slogan “SHEATH ME NOT WITHOUT FREEDOM” along the right side of the blade. On the pommel is engraved: “DRAW ME NOT WITHOUT REASON”. The Knife started life as a standard U.S.M.C. Issue “KA-BAR” Knife, with “U.S.M.C” marked on the side of the Ricasso, and “CAMILLUS, N.Y.” on the left. The left side of the blade has the name “JOE” faintly engraved in the fuller grove.
The scabbard is the Mk2 version, very similar in construction to the M8 scabbard for the M3 fighting knife, with a thermoplastic impregnated cotton fabric body, metal throat, and canvas frog and securing strap. The front of the throat is marked U.S.N. / MK 2, and the rear is marked NORD - 8114 / B.M. Co. with a stylized V P logo. The NORD number is for the US Navy contract it was produced under, which was delivered between March 1945 and May 1945. It was manufactured by Beckwith Mfg Co., a division of Victory Plastics. The scabbard is in very good lightly used condition, with just some oxidation on the throat area and on the rivets due to moisture exposure. The securing strap is fully functional, with a functional snap.
This is a fantastic piece of WWII USMC Kit! Ready for display!
