Item Description
Original Item: One of a Kind. A Private Officer's purchase, a Six shot revolver in approximately .38 caliber, constructed from scratch with a 17" single edged sword blade originating with the Cylinder pin. Overall length 23" and completely original, not some amateur gunsmith's put together.
George DAW's family started the business in 1780 at 57 Threadneedle Street, LONDON. In 1878 the name was changed to G.H. DAW & SON and remained as such until 1889. It then became Daw Gun Company from 1889 until closing in 1892.
This is a most impressive weapon in just lovely original condition with much of the old finish remaining including a bright steel blade and solid one piece checkered walnut grips. Some old rust pits, maybe from blood, to the front of the blade. Almost certainly a special order weapon for an Officer no doubt being posted overseas either to the ZULU WARS in Natal South Africa or to the British Subcontinent of India where fight the natives was a continual occurrence. Marked on the Cylinder Top Strap with The Maker's name and address:

The cylinder bears a LONDON PROOF MARK and other markings. there is also a "CROWN" over C.P. & Co. on the underside of the barrel. The bottom of the grip still has the original rod ejector, which screws into place.
Hopefully this weapon saved the Officer's life in Combat, an awesome revolver!
