Original Item: Only One Available. Almost certainly brought back as a war souvenir by an English soldier after serving in one of the many African campaigns of the mid 19th century, this is carved from a single piece of wood.
The design tapers toward the hilt through which there is a cross hole for the attachment of a leather wrist strap. Measuring 23" in overall length, the head is carved into the image of a warrior's head, interestingly with a "mohawk" type haircut much resembling the 18th century colonial Indians of upper New York State.
However, when viewed from the front the warrior is most definitely an African tribesman. The wood shaft, although very solid, has several small cracks from dryness of age, but is overall has an extremely pleasing matured brown finish.
Although this particular war club is not considered Zulu it may well have originated from another tribe that the British fought during the Victorian period.
