Original Victorian Era East African Iron Spear from the Maasai People - Circa 1850

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a typical item brought back by a British Trooper returning from one of Queen Victoria's little Wars of the second half of the 1800's. The Maasai were a "tall" people, occupying what we today know as KENYA on Africa's East Coast. This substantial spear measures 67" long, almost 5.5 Foot in length. The iron head is 36", with 30" of that being just the blade! The bottom section is also of iron and measures 29" itself. In between there is just 6.5" of wooden haft and that is presumably where one holds the spear, perhaps at the point of balance.

The Maasai were known for their ability to kill Lions but were fierce fighters also. The iron is covered in old rust pits which is to be expected, the blade being double sided. A most impressive spear classically made for use. Great for when the wild animals start calling. Ready to display!
