  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is almost certainly a British soldier's "bring back" this is a totally original to the period ZULU war axe, traditionally referred to as a selepe, carried in the left hand behind the cowhide shield. The short stabbing iklwa spear was carried in the right hand.

This is a type of ZULU Selepe War Axe that we have not seen before. The head of the handle is carved in almost a "scoop" shape around where the small single-edged axe blade is attached. The blade is also more of a traditional axe shape than others we have had. The haft of the axe measures almost 30" overall, and is partially bound in decoratively woven wire. It used to have more binding, but unfortunately it is missing.

Originating from the British/Zulu Wars of 1879, this is clearly a British Trooper's bring back. Very handsome and ready to display.
