Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of a Vietnam War M1-C Paratrooper Helmet Helmet. This helmet came to us as you see it. It is evident that this helmet has been together as pictured for a long time, and is relatively untouched. It is in heavily worn condition, and shows evidence of being used in hot, humid, conditions such as a jungle environment.
The shell has a set of swivel (movable) chinstrap loops called bales and a stainless steel rim. These rims were both rust resistant and had non-magnetic qualities that reduced the chance of error readings when placed around certain sensitive equipment (such as a compass). We have not removed the cover from the helmet shell, as it is obvious that this entire helmet has been together like this for a VERY long time! Overall, all components on this helmet are in matching service-worn condition.
The helmet liner is in mint condition, and has the original stamping on the webbing still visible, showing a clear 1967 date. The chin straps are both intact, with the main helmet chinstrap having the extensions with snaps on the end, which secure the liner to the shell for paratrooper use. Nape Strap and Sweatband also exhibit DSA codes and vietnam dates as well. The foliage band is the correct Vietnam issue variety, that is devoid of the commonly encountered postwar “cat eyes”, and clearly marked “Band, Helmet, Camouflage, US”.
The M1 helmet is a combat helmet that was used by the United States military from World War II until 1985, when it was succeeded by the PASGT helmet. For over forty years, the M1 was standard issue in the U.S. military. The M1 helmet has become an icon of the American military, with its design inspiring other militaries around the world.
This helmet is a fine example of a combat-worn veteran and still retains all of its original Vietnam War parts and paint. Comes ready to display in your collections!
