Original Vietnam War 101st Airborne Hand Painted Welcome Banner From Camp Eagle Bob Hope USO Show, 1971 - 100 ½” x 62 ½”

Item Description

Original Item: One Of A Kind: This is an absolutely fantastic artifact that crosses over not only into the realm of Military History, but of Hollywood History as well! This is a hand painted banner from the 1971 Bob Hope USO Show held at Camp Eagle, Hue, made by members of the 1st Platoon, Company “A”, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne! Not only is this an amazing artifact, but this actual banner was filmed at the show itself!

This same banner is visible in the attached Youtube video in the pictures (third picture) at the 9 second mark!

Luckily, a GI who was in attendance at the 1971 show decided to take down the banner and send it home as a souvenir. The veteran retained the flag up until a few years ago when a collector obtained the banner and accompanying 11 original photographs of the show. This is a first for us, as this sort of material simply did not survive over the decades!

The Banner is a GI Issue Bed Sheet (It is even marked “U.S.” on the upper corner). Hand Painted with the following:

A CO. 1st PLT 2/ 327
PHU BAI IS ALRIGHT BUT WE’VE GOT
HOPE
NO SLACK! (CIB) (101ST INSIGNIA)

The banner measures approximately 100 ½” x 62 ½”. This would make for a fantastic backdrop to a Vietnam Display or great for a collector of Hollywood related material. Finding a piece featured in a video or media is absolutely unheard of, absolute rock solid provenance! Ready for display!
