Original Vietnam War Viet Cong Improvised “Jungle Workshop” Tin Can Grenade with Capture Paper - Inert

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. Rare Vietnamese “Jungle Workshop” Improvised Stick Grenade with original accompanying Capture Paper, as brought home from Vietnam as a war trophy.

This is an excellent example of an improvised grenade, as made at small localized workshops for use by the Vietcong and North Vietnamese Army. This example illustrates perfectly why GIs in Vietnam were instructed to not leave any waste behind; to crush empty ration cans, LAW rocket tubes, and police all discarded items of any sort. The Vietnamese were renowned for their ability to take and recycle almost anything. This particular grenade was made from a can of American origin, which was then repurposed into a stick grenade.

Accompanying the Grenade is the original capture paper, as issued by the 287th Ordnance Detachment (EOD). The paper indicates the GI who was bringing the Grenade home, as well as certification the Grenade was empty and inert.

This example is fitted by the typical pattern of NVA / VC long-handle smooth body stick with the smooth, non-ridged handle with waxed waterproofing inside the handle and around the collar where the head attaches to the handle. The original wooden cap plug is present, which are usually missing from bringback NVA/VC Grenades.

This is an excellent example of Viet Cong Jungle Workshop Hand Grenade. These are incredibly hard to find, especially with capture papers or written provenance.

This ordinance is inert and has been fully deactivated following guidelines provided by the ATF
