Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original World War One era Austrian-Hungarian Officer’s Sword, with a classically ornate half-basket guard with traces of original that has gilt finish over brass, and just a touch of verdigris near the ricasso.
There is a very nice Austro-Hungarian Empire double-headed eagle coat of arms on the guard bowl. The wire “shark skin” grips are intact and in nice shape, and the leather covered steel scabbard is still solid with no issues to the stitching. The long locket / throat is marked on the outer side with the intertwined FJI Royal Monogram of Franz Joseph I of Austria, who reigned 1848 to 1916. The top ring hanger fitting is still firmly attached, though the black gloss leather finish of the scabbard has quite a bit of flaking from being over one hundred years old, but could be easily rejuvenated using shoe some polish, if so desired.
The WWI nickel-plated unmarked blade still retains a nice finish to it and bears only a few minor cosmetic spots. The blade is unsharpened, customary for dress swords and contains no maker markings of any sort. All in all, quite a nice sword!
