Original WWII British MKII Paratrooper Helmet with Net and Chin Strap - Dated 1944

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice example of the British WWII MkII Paratrooper helmet, as used by British and Canadian forces. The MK II began to replace the MK I helmet in February of 1944. The MKII was not widely issued until September 1944, although some were used by the 6th Airborne Division during the Normandy Invasion in June, 1944. The MkII helmet saw widespread use when the Division fought at Arnhem during Operation Market Garden and was also issued to the Polish Parachute Brigade.

This rare example helmet's has definitely seen real service, and shows a good amount of wear. It looks to have gotten wet, possibly during combat. The liner is marked (somewhat obscured):

BMB
7 7/8
44

BMB is the marking for  Briggs Motor Bodies Ltd., who also made Brodie and other helmets for the British war effort.

The chinstrap and leather cup are present and in good condition, though one of the ends is missing on the rear. The helmet retains about 60% of its green textured outside paint. The OD green helmet net is in great shape, with the original pull string closure still intact. The liner comes complete with all padding and suspension strap, though the rubber padding has become stiff in the 75 years since it was produced. Overall the helmet has a great used patina that looks great in collections. Warman's World War II Collectibles price guide values this type of helmet as high as $1,700, but you will many times see them listed for over $2000.

A solid addition to any WWII Collection, ready to display!
