Original WWII Imperial Japanese Military Brass Bugle by Nikkan - Cherry Blossom Marked

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine Japanese Military Bugle from the WWII period. You can identify it as such by the the large clamp that secures the tunings slide / leadpipe, though the wing nut is missing. It is also marked with a Cherry Blossom with a "Q" inside, and Nikkan / 1956.1 under the companies trademarked logo. Nikkan would continue to make brass instruments after the war, eventually becoming part of Yamaha. The Bugle is in overall good condition and playable but does have some dings and dents.

It is of all brass construction with what is most likely a two piece brazed bell. (We cannot see any brazing seams). The silver plated brass mouthpiece appears to be a post war replacement. Tuning slide/lead pipe is unfortunately seized, as is the mouthpiece, however the chain securing the mouthpiece to the bugle is present. A very rare piece from the Empire of the Rising Sun.

The branch of the military would normally be identified by a sash with tassels attached to the bugle by the two large inner rings, red for Army as an example. Further identifying this as a WWII period piece, as opposed to modern day, is the lack of a valve on the front edge.

Approximate dimensions are 12" x 5" x 4.5"
