Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition naval-issue katana. The blade is in nearly perfect condition with only a few very minor scuffs, it is still sharp and nick free. Blade length is 24" and overall length 35". Machine forged blade, with one mounting hole in the squared off tang where there is a Naval ANCHOR stamp. The blade retains all of the original factory finish, with a machined temper line.
Nice steel tsuba (cross guard) with gold highlighted menuki (grip decoration), and a nice gold highlighted Kashira (End Cap), bamboo securing peg still present. Excellent rubberized fabric "synthetic sharkskin" Sa-Me (grip) with complete Ito (cloth binding) with fine decorative collar. Condition of the blade, scabbard and fittings is superb, indicating that this sword may have never been issued.
Wood scabbard with brass copper and gold highlights has a few small dents and dings, and some lacquer splitting on the sides where the two pieces of wood are joined. The Blade, Hilt, and all parts are marked 30, indicating an original matched set made for this specific blade. The blade is marked in lacquer 三 0 , the Japanese character for 3 (san) and a zero, which is the same way the handl is marked. The tsuka (handle) is extremely tight fitting, indicating this sword saw almost no service.
