Item Description
Original Items. One set only.
This one-of-a-kind set is made up of the remarkable Artwork of Corporal Robert C. Hickey, U.S. Army. He was born in 1914 in New Jersey and took part in Operation Torch, the U.S. Invasion of Western North Africa in 1943 as part of the 36th. Infantry Division. Unfortunately Corporal Hickey was wounded in action and hospitalized in Morocco for the remainder of 1943, later being transferred to a Hospital in Italy.
While being hospitalized Hickey passed the time with sketching his surroundings both from "life" and "fantasy". He basically remained incapacitated for the remainder of the war, however he has left us with over 100 original pencil sketches, some in color, displaying everyday people, places and events from his time whilst wounded. He also provided us with typical WW2 Pin up art, mostly in color.
A previous owner did much research on Corporal Hickey and a full file of information including his medals, photographs and discharge papers are all included with this archive. It even includes his own WW2 issue "Zippo" cigarette lighter.
A compelling archive with masses of content from a known soldier who, upon leaving service, became a professional artist. Robert Hickey died on October 20th 2007, aged 93 leaving this wonderful heritage from his experiences in WW2 for us all to treasure.
