Original WWII U.S. Navy MK 5 Deep Sea Dive Knife with Brass Scabbard by DESCO

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. These are most uncommon today but were essential equipment for the hardhat divers of the WWII era. Just what Bob Hope needed in the film "The Road to Bali" when fighting a giant squid!

Offered in excellent condition, this rare DESCO WWII example has the standard 6 7/8" blade with saw teeth on one edge. The grip is turned hardwood and the hilt has a brass pommel, and the knife screws into a heavy brass cylindrical scabbard.

DESCO was an early Mark 5 diving equipment company. DESCO still makes these knives to this day. Most companies marked the scabbard but DESCO did not. There were five or so manufacturers of this type of knife in WW2: DESCO, VINCE FORGE, MORRIS, BATTERYLESS TELEPHONE, BOMAR and SCHRADER.

This example was acquired from a private auction and was barely used, it is offered in great condition and shows only minor storage wear on the outside of the scabbard, which now has a nice aged brass patina.
