Original WWII U.S. OSS Philippine Guerilla Machete with Original Leather Sheath

Regular price $595.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. According to the reference book “U.S. Military Knives, Bayonets and Machetes, Book III” by M.H. Cole, this machete was manufactured by the Cruver Manufacturing Company. The Machete was unmarked with the intention of not to divulge the country of origin if captured by enemy forces. The machete is believed to have been made for the OSS, with the intention of them to be used in the Philippines in the hands of irregular Philippine forces who were being trained in the United States for later insertion into the Philippines by parachute or submarine.

The Parkerized blade has a largely intact finish with signs of sharpening and honest wear from both use and storage alike. The black Bakelite grip is free of chips or cracks. The machete is contained within its original leather sheath which shows moderate wear, and still retains a nice russet color. The stitching is all intact on the sheath. A fantastic example, ready for further research and display.

The OSS (Office of Strategic Services) was formed by the US Government during World War II, as an intelligence agency that was tasked with performing and coordinating espionage activities behind enemy lines. The agency was the predecessor of today’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The OSS not only coordinated and assisted local resistance fighters in many theaters of WWII, but also provided weapons from time to time. Some of the more commonly known OSS weapons are the single shot “Liberator” .45 ACP pistol and the “Sterile Drop Knife”.
