Item Description
New Made Item: The primary variant Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) was the M1918 that chambered a .30-06 Springfield rifle cartridge and wasdesigned by John Browning in 1917 for the U.S. Expeditionary Corps in Europe as a replacement for the French-made Chauchat and M1909 Benet-Mercie machine guns.
The BAR was designed to be carried by advancing infantrymen, slung over the shoulder and fired from the hip, a concept called "walking fire"thought to be necessary for the individual soldier during trench warfare. However in practice, it was most often used as a light machine gun and fired from a bipod (introduced in a later Model known as the M1918A2).
Final development of the M1918A2 was authorized on 30 June 1938. The Springfield Armory rate reducer also provided two selectable rates of fully automatic fire only, activated by engaging the selector toggle. Additionally, a skid-footed bipod was fitted to the muzzle end of the barrel, magazine guides were added to the front of the trigger guard, the handguard was shortened, a heat shield was added to help the cooling process, a small separate stock rest (monopod) was included for attachment to the butt, and the weapon's role was changed to that of a squad light machine gun. The BAR's rear sight scales were also modified to accommodate the newly standardized M2 Ball ammunition with its lighter, flat-base bullet. The M1918A2 walnut buttstock is approximately one inch longer than the M1918 BAR buttstock. The M1918A2 barrel was also fitted with a new flash suppressor, and fully adjustable iron sights. Late in the war, a barrel-mounted carrying handle was added.
Our solid resin non-firing display gun is nothing short of stunning. It really does look like the real thing from just a few feet away. It was cast from a silicon mold of an original M1918A2 in the IMA collection and therefore is not only an accurate 1:1 scale but has all the details of the real thing. It has been expertly air brushed to provide the cold glimmering look of steel and the warm richness of walnut wood stocks. For added authenticity we have used steel sling attachments (fully secure) to allow you to correctly use a leather BAR sling, we added a metal wire frame that runs through most of the more delicate areas of the gun. We used a steel folding bi-pod assembly and steel bolts with wing nuts (just like an original), a steel reinforced barrel mounted carry handle (in fixed position), and even a functioning hinged all steel butt plate/should rest!
This is it, finally an affordable, safe, robust, quality display alternative to spending many thousands of dollars on a liability laden display gun. Perfect for gun enthusiasts, as a prop firearm for theatrical and film productions or one amazing childhood toy for epic war games.
Not only does it look good but it also feels good as this gun weighs a hearty 14 lbs!
