U.S. WWII USMC 5th Amphibious Corps Named Grouping - WW2 & Korean War Veteran

Original Items: One-of-a-kind grouping. Billy P. Buckelew served as a member of the Marine 5th Amphibious Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was a highly decorated marksman and earned a purple heart (named).

The V Amphibious Corps (VAC) was a formation of the United States Marine Corps which was composed of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Marine Divisions in World War II. The three divisions were the amphibious landing force for the United States Fifth Fleet and were notably involved in the battles for Tarawa, Saipan, and Iwo Jima, during the war. The V Amphibious Corps was commanded by General Holland 'Howlin Mad' Smith followed by General Harry Schmidt.

Also included is a wonderful Japanese Good Luck flag taken from a Japanese soldier KIA. It measures 33 x 29. All of this is contained in a 1940s Flor de Melba Cigar Supreme 9 Cents Vintage Cigar Box, 8.5 x 6 x 2.5 inches, nice shape, no major damage just some storage and use wear, has a nice stamp on it, and the bottom is marked State of Alabama.

If only these things could talk! A wonderful grouping of a known Marine who was part of the V Amphibious Corps and served the duration of WWII meaning he saw service on some of the most famous battles of WW2 then went on to serve in the Korean war. That’s true service of a hero.
