Item Description
High End Replica Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic replica of a 19th century iron cannon tube with a lovely black painted finish. It was cast with classic British 19th century production characteristics from the early Victorian Period. The bore measures 1.23", meaning it would fire a 4 oz. (1/4 lb.), referred to as a "Quarter Pounder". Unlike the One Pounder "Falconet" and Half Pounder "Robinet", we were not able to find any specific nicknames given to this size of cannon.
The tube measures 29 3/4" overall, and is 8 inches wide at the trunnions, showing the classic proportions. It is one solid iron casting, probably patterned off an original British Cannon. It has a machine drilled bore, and a real touch hole. This is definitely not one of the cheap ebay replicas that screw together. There are several high quality makers of small replica cannon in the United States, though we unfortunately were not able to find any markings identifying the maker of this one.
Originals of this type would have been mounted as a deck mounted swivel gun on a pedestal, though occasionally they would be mounted in a standard wooden naval mount to use as a signal cannon. As this is a replica, we definitely do not recommend any type of use, and it is being sold for display only.
Weight is approximately 75lbs.
