Regular price $795.00

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous example of an M1895 Pickelhaube with a Prussian Wappen (front plate). As is seldom seen, this example has the original chinstrap. This example is stamped under the rear visor with both a depot stamp and unit marking:

B.I.A.VII.
G

J.R.16

This indicates issue to a soldier in Infantry Regiment 16, a very battle-torn regiment of the war. The I in the depot stamp indicates that it was sent for repair at the VII Armee-Korps in Münster. The spike on top denotes infantry issue, and it for some reason has two black and white (Prussian) cockades instead of one being the Tri-color (German Empire) cockade, but there are small rings which keep the cockades affixed to the helmet, so we believe this configuration to have been done during the period.

The Pickelhaube has its original brass front plate. The helmet is marked with Size 58. The helmet is overall in great condition with little crazing to the exterior leather but nothing serious. The liner is complete, the only issue being the tie-string is gone. This isn’t a huge issue, however. The helmet is also dated 1915 on the interior crown along with a maker mark that is a bit faint, but has the name Alexander.

The helmet is missing the chinstrap but otherwise the helmet is in great shape without any serious condition issues. It has retained its shape well over the past 109 years.

A very impressive piece, ready for further research and display.
