Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of an original WWI German M16 Helmet, maker-marked Si. 62. The original feldgrau paint is still well retained inside the shell, with about 80% still present on the exterior, with the expected wear. It does not look to have been repainted at any time. This example has a very well-preserved M1917 Liner, with the white leather pads still in good shape with all three pillows retained. There are some blue and red markings on the pads but they do not detract from the beauty of the piece. There is no chinstrap remaining.
The helmet shell still has both the dome headed chinstrap retaining rivets, which hold the interior pickelhaube style chin strap lugs in place. It also retains both of the extended ventilation side lugs, which are the correct longer step version for size 62 shells. This would ensure proper installation of a Stirnpanzer brow plate regardless of shell size.
The shell is stamped Si.62 over the left ear, indicating that Eisenhuette Silesia in Paruschowitz, Oberschlesien manufactured it. This company made shells in sizes 62 and 66 for the war effort. Size 62 is a smaller size that can accommodate liners from 54cm to 56cm or US 6 3/4 to 7. This example does not appear to have a rolling mill mark, which is not unheard of. There are no doubts about the authenticity of the helmet. Along the back rim of the helmet, the AK stamp denoting wartime refurbishment can be seen, meaning this helmet was repaired during the war at a depot.
This helmet shell, offered in very nice collectible condition, makes an eye-catching addition to any Great War collection. We hardly ever find examples with liner pads this pliable. Ready to display!
