Item Description
Original & Replica Items: Only One Set Available. This is a wonderful Vietnam War era training display board, made using resin replica grenades from a "Chemical Grenade" kit. They have been attached to a 15 1/2"L x 5"W wooden board, and the set is about 7" in overall height. These were used to identify chemical and gas grenades, which usually burn rather than explode. This class comprises smoke, incendiary (fire-setting), illuminating, chemical-warfare, and tear-gas grenades.
Even though they are replica items, they still resemble actual ordnance:
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
The grenades in this set look to have seen long service, so the paint and labels are unfortunately somewhat degraded, however we were still able to identify the grenades in the kit. These are:
- TWO AN/M14 INCEN TH3: The AN-M14 TH3 incendiary hand grenade is used to destroy equipment. It can damage, immobilize, or destroy vehicles, weapons systems, shelters, or munitions. The grenade may also be used to start fires in areas containing flammable materials.
- AN-M8 SMOKE HC: The AN-M8 HC Smoke Grenade designated as the Army/Navy Model 8 HC Smoke Grenade (AN-M8 Smoke HC) is a US military grenade used as a ground-to-ground obscuring or screening device or a ground-to-air signaling or target-marking device. The HC smoke of the M8 is more toxic than that of the M18 grenade. The fumes comprise an acidic smoke of zinc chloride (ZnCl2), which produces hydrochloric acid on contact with water.
- TWO M-25 A-2 C52: This is the American ABC-M25A2, a bursting type riot control agent hand grenade and may be used to simulate casualty agents during training. The ABC-M25A2 has a powerful lachrymal effect and is irritating to the upper respiratory passages, causing coughing, difficulty in breathing and chest tightness. Heavy concentrations will cause nausea and vomiting. The onset of incapacitation is 15 to 30 seconds and duration from 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the dosage concentration. CS is more persistent and has a more severe reaction than CN.
A lovely set ready for further research and display.
